Geography
An interest in and an understanding of the world in which we live is an essential life skill for young people. At Heart of England students investigate the way people interact with their natural environment, and in doing so we aim to develop our student’s geographical skills, knowledge and interest.
All students study Geography at KS3 and follow a programme of study matching the requirements of the national curriculum. Units covered in Geography are wide ranging and offer the opportunity to study issues locally, nationally and globally.
At KS4 the department offers G.C.S.E. courses in Geography. In Geography students follow OCR syllabus B. Units studied include: Climate, the Environment and People, People and Place, Water, Landforms and People and People, Work and Development. Students are assessed through tiered exams and coursework.
At KS5 students can opt to study a range of popular and well resources courses. In Geography students follow the Edexcel syllabus B AS/A2 syllabus. Assessment is through exams and coursework distributed throughout Years 12 and 13.
n all courses offered, in all key stages, there is an emphasis on investigation and learning new skills, as well as the acquisition of knowledge. The importance of education outside of the classroom is acknowledged through the use of a range of day and residential field studies in all key stages.
